Abstract

The collapse of former Soviet Union can be obviously considered as the elimination of one of the historical threats for Iran's security. However, this geopolitical transformation has entailed some security threats for Iran; some of these developments in the domain of southern Caucasia will be mentioned in this article.
Analysis of Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy in southern Caucasia is very essential and important, with respect to Iran's geopolitical position and its long political-cultural presence in southern Caucasia, Iran's historical bonds with regional countries, and opportunities and threats existing in this region by regional countries and neighboring competing powers as well as interfering supra-regional countries.
